What Are Oversized Number Plates?
Oversized number plates use a larger physical plate to properly fill a larger factory number plate recess — common on some SUVs and larger vehicles where a standard-size plate leaves visible gaps. This is a difference in the overall plate size, not the registration characters: the characters themselves must still meet the same legal dimensions as any other UK plate. An oversized plate is not the same thing as oversized lettering, which isn't legal.

Oversized Number Plate Sizes
We manufacture oversized plates at 533mm x 152mm (21" x 6").
If your vehicle's recess is a different size, contact us before ordering so we can confirm we can produce a plate to fit.
Legal. Compliant. No Compromises.
Yes — the overall size of the plate isn't restricted by law in the way the character dimensions are. What matters is that the registration characters on the plate meet the same font, height, width, spacing and reflectivity requirements as any other UK plate, regardless of how much surrounding plate material there is around them.

More Than a Plate.
No unsightly gaps around a standard-size plate that's too small for the space.
The larger surrounding plate doesn't change the character dimensions, which remain fully compliant.
Standard, 3D, 4D, 5D, Bevel or Ghost, at £5 on top of the usual price.
Made specifically for your registration, at our own workshop — not outsourced.
Which Vehicles Might Need an Oversized Plate?
Some larger SUVs and premium vehicles have a factory recess sized for a plate larger than the standard 520mm x 111mm.
If you're not sure whether your vehicle needs an oversized plate, measure your recess before ordering, or contact us for guidance.

Yes — there's no fixed legal size for the overall plate. What's regulated is the registration characters themselves, which must meet the standard font, size, spacing and reflectivity requirements regardless of the plate's overall dimensions.
No. The registration characters stay the standard legal size. Only the surrounding plate material is larger, to properly fill a bigger recess.
