Ghost-style plates must meet the same requirements as any other UK number plate — reflective construction, correct character colour and format, supplier markings and the applicable British Standard marking. Ours are manufactured to the current specification using moulded plastic characters, not reflective sprays or films.

No. Our Ghost plates are not designed to block, obscure or interfere with ANPR. The Ghost finish comes from the character material itself, not a spray, film or coating intended to make a registration difficult for cameras to read.

Ghost-style and anti-ANPR plates are receiving increased government and enforcement attention, including a British Standards Institution consultation on amendments to the number plate standard (closed December 2025, outcome still pending). The scrutiny is aimed at plates using sprayed or applied reflective coatings — see our full guide for the latest position.

Check five things: the supplier is DVLA-registered (look for an RNPS ID), they require document verification before manufacturing (V5C/ID), the finished plate displays supplier markings (RNPS ID and postcode), the plate looks normally reflective under light rather than "blinding," and the price is realistic — extremely cheap plates are usually illegal. Ours meet all five.

Using or displaying an illegal plate can carry a fixed penalty notice, a court fine, MOT failure, and vehicle seizure, with tougher penalties under active government consideration. Our Ghost plates are built on a compliant reflective base with no applied anti-camera treatment, so they don't carry that risk.

No. Any plate marketed as "ANPR proof," "camera avoiding" or "stealth" — claiming to prevent camera reading — uses reflective sprays or films that fail BS AU 145e and is illegal to use. If you've seen these terms, our compliant Ghost plates give you the distinctive look without the risk.

Ghost refers to the subtle gradient visual effect built into the character material. 4D refers to raised, laser-cut acrylic characters. These are different kinds of finish — you can compare them side by side above.

Some combinations may be available through our plate builder — check the builder for current options for your registration.

A Ghost-style plate must meet the same number plate requirements checked during an MOT, including the correct font, dimensions, spacing, legibility, reflectivity and required markings. Whether any individual plate passes an MOT depends on the condition and compliance of the finished plate at the time of inspection.
